Usability Quote of the Day

May 23, 2012

There's something very odd going on here. If designers made completely unrealistic assumptions about the physical world when designing technology, then we would blame them (and likely sue them) for technical incompetence. Yet when they make grossly unrealistic assumptions about human nature... we don't blame the designers, we blame the unfortunate people who are just trying to do what the design requires. -- Kim Vicente, The Human Factor, p. 45.    (via interaction-design.org)

The ultimate Treo resource: Interview with Jeff Gibson

MTDN: Can you start by telling us how you came to find the Treo?

JG: In general? I found the Treo when I was mearly a user and looking for a business solution to multiple devices. Palm, phone, pager, etc....

JG: I worked with Jean-Francios on the initial design and got his blessing to expand on his outstanding idea.

JG: I then extended it to allowing the user to configure all 9 sound types, radio settings, Blue Tooth settings, keyboard lighting, etc. Then my users were saying that they liked the calendar integration but they wanted a full featured profile utility that had a user interface to it.

JG: So I am now in the late stages of a Beta program on Phase II of ScheduleCare. This version retains all of the functionality of the initial ScheduleCare but now has a full blown graphical user interface. It now combines the ability to build profiles that are timed, manual or soon to be BlueTooth detection. (Via mytreo.net)
