Usability Quote of the Day

May 23, 2012

There's something very odd going on here. If designers made completely unrealistic assumptions about the physical world when designing technology, then we would blame them (and likely sue them) for technical incompetence. Yet when they make grossly unrealistic assumptions about human nature... we don't blame the designers, we blame the unfortunate people who are just trying to do what the design requires. -- Kim Vicente, The Human Factor, p. 45.    (via interaction-design.org)

Contrived Consistency

I think the last sentence is the operative one from a UI viewpoint ...

"Brent Simmons has a series of observations about Apple’s UI consistency in Tiger over at his blog.

But I’m gonna go ahead and wonder what the hell he’s so concerned about regarding Apple’s departures from visually identically interface widgets.

So long as your widgets function as a user would expect, a developer should have a little bit of leeway as to what the exact look of their application is."   continued ...   (Via Stolen Sheep)
