Usability Quote of the Day

May 23, 2012

There's something very odd going on here. If designers made completely unrealistic assumptions about the physical world when designing technology, then we would blame them (and likely sue them) for technical incompetence. Yet when they make grossly unrealistic assumptions about human nature... we don't blame the designers, we blame the unfortunate people who are just trying to do what the design requires. -- Kim Vicente, The Human Factor, p. 45.    (via interaction-design.org)

Lawn-Boy Introduces the First Mowers 'Designed to Fit You'

Can you make an unpleasant chore and pleasant UX? ...

"Mowers Appeal to Consumers Who Value Thoughtful Design, Ease-of-Use and Simplicity

Lawn-Boy, a leading manufacturer of outdoor power equipment, introduces its new line of mowers designed from the ground up to fit users through a unique human factors engineering process. Many of the line's features and design elements have never before been incorporated into a lawn mower -- setting a new industry benchmark for comfort and ease-of-use.

The Lawn-Boy Insight(TM) walk power mowers have more than 15 new features, including soft grips on the pull cord that are designed to fit the entire human hand and an adjustable handle height that allows a 4'10" homeowner to mow equally as comfortable as someone that is 6'2". Removing and replacing the bag requires only one hand. And when the lawn is done, using a simple step-on lever, the handle can fold down 180 degrees for storage of the mower underneath a bench. Additionally, Lawn-Boy has reintroduced riding mowers to its line with the launch of Precision(TM) Zero Turning Radius (ZTR) mowers -- the first riding mower that fits the user as precisely as it mows. The unique styling of the ZTR was inspired by "friendly" and "approachable" automotive designs with intuitive operator interfaces, making the mowers easy for users to use."   continued ...   (Via Yahoo Finance)

I just purchased an electric start self propelled mower and it is the hardest mower I have ever used. It is heavy and hard to steer and you have to push it continously to keep it going, I will never buy another lawn-boy and I cannot get the seller to even come out to check it and I have only used it three times.
