Usability Quote of the Day

November 21, 2008

In the information age, as computers invade our lives and more and more products contain a chip of silicon, we find that what lies between us humans and our devices is cognitive friction, which is something new and something that we are ill-prepared to deal with. Our engineering skills are highly refined, but when we apply them to a cognitive friction problem, they fail to solve it. -- Alan Cooper, The Inmates are Running the Asylum, p. 92.   (via interaction-design.org)

Web Usability: Why Do We Overlook the Obvious

The importance of usability to retail sites ...

"As the holiday season grows closer, and my shopping intensifies, I can't help but notice how many online retailers don't seem to be paying attention to the usability of their sites.

With the time, money and effort put in to establishing yourself in the online marketplace, it doesn't make any sense to drive customers away from your site. Whether it is poor design, confusing navigation or any of the other annoyances that can drive potential customers away; not focusing on the user's experience within your site is going to cost money and undermine your overall marketing efforts.

There are a number of things an Internet retailer can do to increase their presence in the search engines. Accomplishing this should in turn increase the traffic to the site, which in turn should increase conversions. When this increase in traffic does not correlate with an increase in sales, one reason could be usability."   continued ...   (Via )

I totally agree with you! I can't tell you how many times I have been shopping online and was directed to a website and didn't think it was very credible because of the way it looked. The look of your website can make or break it!!
