Usability Quote of the Day

May 23, 2012

There's something very odd going on here. If designers made completely unrealistic assumptions about the physical world when designing technology, then we would blame them (and likely sue them) for technical incompetence. Yet when they make grossly unrealistic assumptions about human nature... we don't blame the designers, we blame the unfortunate people who are just trying to do what the design requires. -- Kim Vicente, The Human Factor, p. 45.    (via interaction-design.org)

Archy Alpha build 124 is released

Progress on the Archy usability test bed ...

"Archy Alpha, build 124 is released. Archy is a computing environment built from ground up, based on scientific knowledge about how the human mind works. Archy is a usability testbed for research in new approaches to UI design.

Imagine a system where your work can never be lost, where you can do what you want -- send email, write a book, make calculations, manipulate pictures -- at all times, without having to switch applications. Imagine never having to search for a file buried in a maze of folders. Imagine a system that allows you to be twenty percent faster and twenty percent more productive than any other system. That's what Archy will be."   continued ...   (Via Raskin Center)
